Data Lifecycle Management

Deploying a data lifecycle management solution is different for almost every organization. This is because the determination of the business value of information and how information is managed throughout its lifecycle (collectively called service level objectives) is a knowledge-based process that must be developed in-house. Only then can policies be designed and deployed that integrate the service level objectives of the information with the resources available in an information repository.

Phoenix facilitates best practices in lifecycle management by providing a comprehensive and flexible set of data manipulation tools that enable the refinement of Data Service Policies to any depth of classification required to meet any organization's needs. Once data classification parameters have been set, policies can be designed against key performance indicators (KPI), which are used to describe the changing state of the data being managed. KPIs define trigger point events that dictate when storage requirements change for a particular file or dataset.

Once policies are deployed, data is managed through the Phoenix Information Repository, a managed storage environment, automatically. Phoenix ensures that the data under its management is preserved on media that meets its service level requirements, regardless of how the requirements change over time. When data has reached its end of life, and final authorization is submitted, Phoenix ensures that all relevant data is removed from the system.

When Phoenix is applied to a file system, the file system becomes part of the Information Repository. From that time forward, the data within the file system is automatically protected, groomed, collated, hierarchically archived, and preserved as required throughout its lifecycle. It is readily and easily accessed should it ever be needed. And when it is eligible by all standards, all traces of it are eliminated from the system.
