Information Lifecycle ManagementThe Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) defines Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) as the process of aligning the business value of information with the most appropriate and cost-effective storage infrastructure from the time the information is created until it is purged from all systems. The ILM process is the extension and culmination of the
Phoenix data management applications. Once files have been
classified and collated onto purposed storage, the ILM process is completed by policies that monitor the
information and ensure that it is maintained on media resources that meet its recovery time objectives and
service level requirements as they change over time.
Policies are designed and deployed to move the information through a hierarchically tiered storage environment. As the data is eligible, disposition policies ensure that all traces of the information is removed from the managed storage environment, including primary storage as applicable. Should any archived information be needed, however, the Phoenix Search and eDiscovery will locate it wherever it may be in the Phoenix Information Repository. All data retains its digital fingerprint and original permission attributes. It also will conform to any future policies that may be deployed, such as policies to migrate data to a new storage technology or a search policy that determines what data needs to be included in a legal hold. Phoenix ILM completely automates the management of information from its inception to its disposal. Primary storage requirements are reduced because data is continually groomed and all storage resources are kept operating at maximum efficiency. |
